Overview
The objective of the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care qualification is to equip learners with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills required for a career in the health and social care sector at a managerial level. The programme enables learners to demonstrate their skills by producing evidence from their work or training activities. Learners will acquire care management skills in the Health and Social Care sector.
The qualification has three stages:
- Level 4 or 1st year bachelor’s degree – 120 credits (6 modules)
- Level 5 or 2nd year bachelor’s degree – 120 credits (5 modules)
- Level 4 and 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care is a 240 credit course designed to progress to the third stage final year of an Undergraduate BA (Hons) in Health and Social Care Management at the University.
- 4/5 Diploma in Health and Social Care has 6 written assignments at Level 4 and 5 written assignments at Level 5. The assignments are approximately 2,000-3,000 words each.
The Undergraduate 1st and 2nd year (Level 4 and 5) Diploma in Health and Social Care allows learners to progress into or within employment and/or continue their study towards a BA (Hons) Health and Social Care Management Top-Up degree with advanced standing at Universities in the UK and overseas.
Successful completion of the full Level 4 and 5 Health & Social Care Course and final year of an accredited Undergraduate degree programme will act as a springboard to a professional career in Health & Social Care services. The course pulls together theory and practice for those who wish to work with people in a caring environment.

About Ofqual: The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) regulates qualifications, examinations, and assessments in England. It is a non-ministerial government department with jurisdiction in England. Ofqual operates independently of the government and reports directly to Parliament. Any Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications approved by Ofqual are equivalent to Higher National Certificates (HNC) and Higher National Diplomas (HND), or to Year 1 and Year 2 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree programme.
Entry Requirements
For entry onto the Level 4 and Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care qualification, learners must possess:
- Relevant NQF/QCF/RQF Level 3 Award/Diploma or at the level of Plus 2 or GCE/GCSE or equivalent qualification.
- Mature learners (over 24-55) with management experience (learners must contact us to discuss past commercial experience prior to registering for the programme).
- Learner must be 18 years or older at the beginning of the course.
English requirements: Learner must demonstrate evidence of English language competency.
