Course Content

This module offers an in-depth introduction to the scientific reasonings behind environmental impact and the risks of climate change, offering students a solid foundation to better understand the importance of actual, timing, and appropriate measures to tackle such issues globally and individually.

This module aims to provide students with the knowledge, tools and understanding needed to critically inform their decision making in an organisational context, using the support of scientific facts.

In the global environment, managers and financial decision-makers should always be aware of their impact on the organisation as well as on social matters, and their ethical responsibilities towards the community in which they operate. In order to foster this attitude, the module will provide graduate students with a clear understanding of what financial and managerial accounting is and how to properly translate this information to make an informed decision in strategic planning and control.

This module provides an introductory look into sustainable entrepreneurship and its key concepts. Students will learn what it means to be(come) a sustainable entrepreneur through case studies and practical work.

It will cover the concepts, theories, and techniques of new venture start-ups in the sustainability sector, in addition to the application of sustainable business modelling and innovation management in the business sector. It will examine the nature and importance of entrepreneurship and the typical characteristics, mindset, and motivations of the entrepreneur. The generation of new ideas, the shaping of business models and the nature of innovation are also covered. The formulation of a viable business plan, the lean start-up and customer discovery are central to the course. The module also introduces students to the interdisciplinary and multifaceted field of innovation.

In this module, we will discuss the importance of leadership styles to promote long-lasting change in society, while recognising the importance of everyone’s involvement to be effective.

The organisations and individuals of today need to consider possible risks to their activities from a variety of perspectives and mitigate such risks to minimise impact both from an individual and broader business level.

Students entering the business world need to develop certain skills and competencies to enhance and increase their practical experience, especially in relation to the tech start-up world. Whether interested in starting a business, or working in a start-up environment, students will require certain knowledge and skills that are linked to an entrepreneurial mindset. During this course, students will be given the opportunity to better understand how clean start-ups can concentrate their efforts and business models to improve the environment in a long-term approach.

During this module, students will have the opportunity to research, critically appraise and comment on the state of the art in alternatively powered transportation, aerospace tourism and automation. Through a series of case studies, topics such as electric and flexible fuel vehicles, the recent space race and the modern tech city will be introduced and discussed to promote sustainable change outside the classroom.

The module supports and guides students towards the production of an independent piece of original business research taking the form of a business research project. Students will have the opportunity to apply their prior knowledge to real-life research questions that arise from their placement experience and will learn to undertake and critically assess business research, its impact and its contextual nature.
